Program Details
During the Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) program, you get the unique opportunity to put academic theory into practice in real workplace settings through skills development placements and mentorship placements.
Skills Development Placements
Practice the skills you have learned in class during weeks 1 to 18. You will be supervised by one of the CCA instructors (RNs or LPNs) while you are in the long-term care facilities.
Mentorship Placements
Do the work of a CCA with your mentor's help and guidance to build on-the-job skills and get career ready.

A Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) helps with the key activities of daily living to individuals of all ages, promoting health, independence, wellness, and enriching their quality of life. Qualified Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs) are in high demand in Nova Scotia because of the growing aging population on the East Coast. Long-term care facilities are running short of necessary staffing - there are a variety of open positions at this time and this number is continuing to grow. Once you graduate from our Continuing Care Assistant Certificate program, you have a few different career path options, including:

When you are enrolled in our Continuing Care Assistant Certificate program, you also join Career Academy Canada – a free career-readiness program that’s designed to help you identify and map out your career goals, as well as build the skills you need to not only succeed during interviews, but land your dream job. From resume and cover letter writing to networking and interview practice, you’ll get access to a variety of in-person and virtual workshops and tools that will help you build your career confidence and successfully enter into the healthcare field.
What You Will Learn During the Program
The Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Certificate program develops the skills and attributes students need to deliver respectful, person-focused care to individuals. During the program, you will participate in in-person lectures, led by experts in the field, to develop the academic theory and knowledge required to put your skills into practice during your placements. You will also participate in one skills development placement, as well as three mentorship placements, all of which expose you to a variety of care settings, including home care, nursing homes, acute care facilities, and other approved care settings that employ CCAs.
